Tattoos attract people and are meant to be permanent. But the tattoo
that used to excite you years back may not be appealing any more. So, it
needs to be removed and there are a number of ways to remove tattoos.
The thought of removing tattoo itself is very painful keep aside really
doing it. All the ways that are involved in the removal of tattoos are
painful and does not guarantee that your skin would look fresh without
any mark.

Though the techniques are developing everyday the removal greatly
depends on factors like size, type and location of the tattoo. The
methods for removal should also be selected accordingly. You should make
tattoos, which won’t get out of fashion or otherwise the removal is
really going to hit hard on your body and pocket as it is not yet
covered by insurance. The methods of removing tattoos are:
Laser Tattoo Removal
Perhaps the most popular nowadays is the
laser tattoo treatment for removing
tattoos. The removal technique involves targeting the ink with highly
concentrated rays of coloured laser light penetrating the skin.
The treatment is expensive, painful and may take $250 to $1,500 or more for one session. The number of sessions varies from person to
person and depending on the size, location, depth and colour of your
tattoo. The usual complete removal involves 3-10 sessions with each
session taking 10-30 mins and 6-8 weeks apart.
Surgical Methods
More recommended for smaller tattoos, the surgical method is an
operation that is done under local anaesthesia because it is painful.
The surgeon cuts the tattoo area out of the skin and then stitch the
skin again. For smaller tattoos its easy but for bigger tattoos skin
grafting is done from other part of the body.
Dermabrasion
This method is also performed under local anaesthesia to reduce pain
of the sanding of the skin with a rotating wire brush to remove several
layers of the skin. The procedure is followed by several treatments and
sometimes takes several weeks to heal leaving a scar or a pale area. The
success of dermabrasion depends on the depth of the ink. The lesser the
depth the better is the result.
Salabrasion
The oldest form of removing tattoo is by rubbing salt or salt
solution and then applying the sanding tool. It is very painful and
leads to reddening and bleeding. This method is very prone to leave
scars on your skin.
Another form is cryosurgery. It involves freezing the skin and then the
normal procedure follows. The frozen skin leads to less chances of
bleeding.
Chemical Peels
This method involves using an acid called trichloroacetic on the skin
to blister. The blisters peel off and renew itself to finally remove the
tattoo. Many layers of skin are removed in one application and you can
not apply it for another six weeks to come. A burning feeling is felt
during the application followed by numbness.
The risk involved with this method is low and can be carried out in the
doctor's office or in a surgery centre. However, the few problems that
arise are scarring, infection, hyper pigmentation where the skin becomes
darker and hypo pigmentation where the skin becomes lighter. You should
consult your doctor to confirm whether to go for this method.
Fade Away Creams
This is perhaps the cheapest, the easiest and the lengthiest process
in the removal of tattoos. There are creams available in the market,
which are enriched in chemicals that would break the components of the
tattoo ink and the ink is disposed from the body by your immune system.
This process is a long process and less harmful. Results may vary in
each individual.
